May is Mental Health Month!

For over 50 years, our country has celebrated "May is Mental Health Month" to raise awareness about mental illness and the importance of mental wellness for all.  In observance of May is Mental Health Month, the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board (SWRMHB) has worked with community providers to develop a calendar of events. During May, seventeen mental health organizations in lower Fairfield County will be offering over 20 special events and programs aimed at educating and informing the general public about these often baffling and misunderstood illnesses.  Click here for the Mental Health Month Calendar for Fairfield County.Source: http://swrmhb.org/index.html

As part of a comprehensive treatment program, medication -assisted therapies have been shown to increase retention in treatment, decrease criminal activities, decrease homelessness and increase employment. This program will look at how methadone, buprenorphine, and other medication-assisted therapies continue to help individuals, families and communities overcome the ravages of alcohol and drug addiction.
