Promoting Recovery with Recovery Support Services ConferenceThe Connecticut Certification Board (CCB) presented the Second Annual CCB Conference last May 22nd and 23rd at the Holiday Inn, North Haven, CT. The theme of the conference was Promoting Recovery with Recovery Support Services and this conference was in partnership with the Connecticut Community For Addiction Recovery, Focus on Recovery - United and the Yale University Program for Recovery and Community Health. More Drug Intervention Program Professional Development ConferenceRNP sponsored a presentation on the Drug Court model at the Scinto Auditorium on Tuesday, May 20, from 10am-3:30pm. Our agency is fortunate to be involved in sponsoring this presentation due to John Hamilton’s leadership role as the President of the New England Association of Drug Court Professionals. The keynote speaker was Douglas B. Marlowe, the international expert on treatment matching in the criminal justice system. More May is Mental Health Month!For over 50 years, our country has celebrated "May is Mental Health Month" to raise awareness about mental illness and the importance of mental wellness for all. In observance of May is Mental Health Month, the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board (SWRMHB) has worked with community providers to develop a calendar of events. During May, seventeen mental health organizations in lower Fairfield County will be offering over 20 special events and programs aimed at educating and informing the general public about these often baffling and misunderstood illnesses. Click here for the Mental Health Month Calendar for Fairfield County.Source: http://swrmhb.org/index.html Medication-Assisted Therapies: Providing a "Whole-Patient" Approach to TreatmentThe use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a "whole-patient" approach to treatment, has proven successful in helping individuals break their addictions to drugs and alcohol. As part of a comprehensive treatment program, medication -assisted therapies have been shown to increase retention in treatment, decrease criminal activities, decrease homelessness and increase employment. This program will look at how methadone, buprenorphine, and other medication-assisted therapies continue to help individuals, families and communities overcome the ravages of alcohol and drug addiction. Source: National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Co-occurring Disorders TrainingDanielle Moreggi, Ph.D., CCDP, of Connecticut Certification Board, delivered a course on Co-occurring Disorders to RNP staff as one of the highlights of the Training Institute. CCB and RNP initiative aim to support all employees towards certification and increase workforce capacity. The current number of certifications that will be obtained based on the number of registered participants in the RNP catalogue is 60. More HIV/AIDS TrainingRNP initiated an informative training about HIV/AIDS for non-medical Counselors, Clinicians, and Case Managers. The training was held on March 29 and April 5, 2008 at CHS and Shelton Corporate Office, respectively. More Multimedia FilesRNP's Annual ReportThe agency's annual report is available in our web site. Training InstituteRNP's Workforce Development Team initiates its first wave of formal training through its collaborative with Connecticut Certification Board. Per Tina Klem, Chief Clinical Officer, these trainings are major endeavors for all RNP employees to move forward and further develop and enhance their knowledge and skill sets. The Training Institute is an ongoing process and the first batch starts in February.
